Concerning questions on Basic Theory Tests (BTT)

Q1. When can I take the Basic Theory Test (BTT)?
A1. Anyone of the age 18 years and above are eligible to take the BTT.

Q2. How is the Basic Theory Test (BTT) conducted?
A2. The BTT will be conducted in a classroom environment in a designated location which you can find on your registration sheet. You may select the venue of the test when you sign up for the test. You will have to answer 50 questions, all of which are multiple choice questions (MCQs). The questions are phrased in all 4 major languages: English, Malay, Chinese and Tamil. You will be given instructions on the shading procedures on the day of the test itself. The questions are pretty standard, like those you can find in the test examples in the Test Section here. There are several sets of booklets, labeled by alphabets. The questions basically are the same in all the booklets, though they are arranged differently, depending on the Set the question booklet belongs to. You will realise that in the seating arrangement, you will never suit beside someone who has the same booklet Set (ie. alphabet) as you. This is to prevent you from copying the answers. To pass you need to answer AT LEAST 45 questions correctly.

Q3. Is there an expiry date to the Basic Theory Test (BTT)?
A3. There is no expiry date tagged to the BTT. Once you've passed it, you can keep it for life. This is in contrast to the Advance Theory Test (ATT) which has an expiry date of 2 years from date you sat for the test.

Q4. What do I do after getting the Basic Theory Test (BTT)?
A4. There are 2 things you can do: you can either carry on to take the Advance Theory Test (ATT) or alternatively, you can apply for a Provisional Driving License (PDL) and start your driving lessons. Usually, when you start your driving lessons, your instructor will immediately try to get you an early test date, provided you have passed the ATT. For that reason, some trainee would prefer taking the ATT first before the lessons, or take the ATT as soon as hey start their driving lessons. In any case, the choice is up to you.

Q5. How can I sign up for the Basic Theory Test (BTT)?
A5. There are 3 ways to sign up for the BTT: 1. Go to any test centre (see Driving Instruction Centres) and signup on the spot. Just bring your IC and $6 for registration; 2. You can sign up online at http://s-one.internet.gov.sg/tp/ebtt/btt/btt_online.html ; or 3. You can always ask your instructor to sign up for you if you applied for a full course.

Concerning questions on Final/Advanced Theory Tests (FTT/ATT)

Q1. What is the Advance Theory Test (ATT) for?
A1. The ATT is a more comprehensive and advanced test that tests your skills and competency on the road, theoretically.  It is needed for you to signup for the final practical test.

Q2. When can I take the Advance Theory Test (ATT)?
A2. You can take the ATT anytime after you've passed your Basic Theory Test (BTT).

Q3. Is there an expiry date to the Advance Theory Test (ATT)?
A3. Unlike the Basic Theory Test (BTT) which does not have an expiry date, the ATT has an expiry date of 2 years.  That means that once you've passed the ATT, you have got to pass your final practical test within 2 years or you will have to retake the ATT.

Q4. How is the Advance Theory Test (ATT) conducted?
A4. The ATT is conducted no differently from the Basic Theory Test (BTT).  The ATT will be conducted in a classroom environment in a designated location which you can find on your registration sheet. To pass you need to answer AT LEAST 45 questions correctly

Q5. How can I sign up for the Advance Theory Test (ATT)?
A5. There are 3 ways to sign up for the ATT: 1. Go to any test centre (see Driving Instruction Centres) and signup on the spot.  Just bring your IC and $6 for registration; 2. You can sign up online at http://s-one.internet.gov.sg/tp/; or 3. You can always ask your instructor to sign up for you if you applied for a full course.

Final Practical Driving Test

Q1. What will I be tested on?
A1.
You will be tested on everything you'll need to know about driving safely and sensibly on the road.  there are 2 parts to the test: Circuit and on the Road.   In the circuit, you will be tested on 1. Crank Course, 2. Reversing, 3. Parallel and Vertical Parking, 4. 'S' Shaped course, 5. Directional Change and 6. Slope.  On the road, you will be tested on road safety, obeying traffic rules and confident driving.   For more information, you can refer to the Class 3 Driving Test Assessment Checklist, the Driving Circuit Map and the Test Routes above.

Q2. I've heard rumours that the Kampung Ubi route is difficult and has a low first-time pass rate.  Is this true?
A2. All test centres have their pros and cons.  As for Ubi, the problem usually lies in heavy traffic congestion, especially if your test time coincide with peak hours.   The roads, however, are very simple, with minimal slope and mainly straight roads.   You may, encounter very narrow roads but your hours of driving lessons should be able to familiarise you with the roads and the routes.  Do not be discouraged as there are many first time passes from Ubi.  Just be confident.

Q3. Is there a quota to the number of passes per month?
A3. No, the Traffic Police (TP) does not set any quota for the number of passes monthly.  Neither will you be discriminated for your gender. You stand an equal chance to pass, whether your test date is early in the month or late in the month, or whether you're old or young, or a man or woman.

Q4. How early can I get a test date?
A4. There is no concrete answer to this.  The instructor usually will lookup at the test centre when he can register for a particular date, if it is available.  It depends on the test centre to release the registration date.  Depending on the number of testees, you can expect somewhere around 3 - 6 months.  For that reason, it is always advisable for you to have passed our Advance Theory Test (ATT) before you start your driving lesson, so that your instructor can immediately book a test date for you on your first lesson.  Take note that students of public driving schools (i.e. belonging to the test centre itself) will get faster test dates than those who go through a private instructor.  The downside to this, of course, is the high cost.

Q5. How do I sign up for the final practical test?
A5. Only your registered instructor can signup for you.  He will need your Provisional Driving License and your Advance Theory Test pass slip.
